Washington was named after George Washington after it came under American control. Washington was first settled during the rule of the Spanish Empire and was originally called St. John’s Settlement. In 1990 Washington became sister cities with Marbach am Neckar, Germany; student exchanges and visits occur between the two cities on a regular basis. A notable resident of Washington is famous actor Jack Wagner who has played roles on General Hospital, The Bold and The Beautiful and Melrose Place.
