Hannibal, Missouri is a city in Ralls and Marion County. Hannibal is located about 100 miles northwest of St. Louis at the intersection of I-72 and U.S. Routes 24, 36 and 61. The site of Hannibal was originally laid out by early settlers and Native American tribes. Hannibal was formed by Moses Bates in 1819. Hannibal is best known as famous author, Mark Twain’s boyhood home and serves as the setting for his well known works The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Hannibal is home to Hannibal LaGrange College, a 4 year liberal arts college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Hannibal is home to many notable individuals such as major league baseball player Jake Beckley and African-American politician Blanche Bruce.
