Warrensburg, Missouri is the county seat of Johnson County. Warrensburg was founded by settler Martin Warren in 1856. One of the Elementary schools in Warrensburg is named after the town’s founder. Warrensburg is close to the infamous and horrific Missouri Pacific train wreck which occurred in 1904. A westbound freight train collided with an eastbound passenger train head on killing 30 people. The passenger train involved in this catastrophic crash was packed full of people traveling to St. Louis for the 1904 World’s Fair. Warrensburg is home to The University of Central Missouri. Warrensburg is home to several notable public figures such as famous African-American concert pianist John William “Blind” Boone and actor Sidney Toler.
