A woman was taken by ambulance Sunday evening after a two-vehicle crash in southwest Columbia.
The crash happened near the 3000 block of Chapel Hill Road, just east of Chapel Ridge Road. Eastbound traffic was stalled after the crash, and Boone County Joint Communications warned drivers to use caution in the area around 7 p.m.
According to an ABC 17 News reporter at the scene, a gray Nissan Kicks was turned west in the eastbound lane of Chapel Hill Road and a silver Buick Lucerne was turned east in the same eastbound lane. Both vehicles had crumpled front bumpers, and the Nissan’s airbags had deployed.
An adult woman was seen being placed into an ambulance and taken from the scene. At least two Columbia Police Department vehicles, and one Columbia Fire Department truck and an ambulance were present.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene around 7:40 p.m.
Crashes on city roads can become dangerous quickly, especially when vehicles end up facing different directions in the same lane of travel. Drivers must remain alert, control their speed, and be prepared to react to traffic, turns, and unexpected hazards ahead.
A crash serious enough to deploy airbags, damage both front bumpers, stall traffic, and require ambulance response should not be treated lightly. Drivers have a responsibility to operate with caution and avoid creating sudden dangers for others on the road. Conduct that causes a two-vehicle crash and sends someone for medical care should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
