Two people were injured Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Randolph County.
The crash happened around 11:12 a.m. on August 29, 2026, on Route A, about three miles south of Higbee. A 1999 Chevrolet Silverado ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a 2011 Ford Transit van as it was exiting a driveway. The impact caused the Ford to overturn.
The driver of the Chevrolet suffered moderate injuries. The driver of the Ford suffered serious injuries. Both were taken by EMS to a local hospital.
The Chevrolet was totaled, and the Ford sustained extensive damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash report states that the Ford driver was wearing a safety device, while the Chevrolet driver was not.
Crashes involving vehicles leaving the roadway can be especially dangerous because they create hazards outside the normal flow of traffic. A driver exiting a driveway should not have to expect a vehicle to run off the roadway and strike them. When a vehicle leaves its lane and collides with another vehicle, the other driver may have little chance to avoid the impact.
This crash shows why drivers must remain alert, stay in their lane, and maintain control at all times. Running off the road is not a minor mistake when it causes another vehicle to overturn and seriously injures another driver. Conduct that places innocent motorists in danger should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
