U.S. 50 Crash Seriously Injures Driver in Boone County

blog

Two people were injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Boone County.
The crash happened around 11:05 a.m. on October 10, 2026, on westbound U.S. 50 at Lookout Trail. A 2015 Chevrolet Equinox attempted to cross the westbound lanes of U.S. 50 and was struck by a 2026 Hyundai Elantra.
The driver of the Chevrolet suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital. The driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries and was transported by private conveyance.
Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The report states that both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Crashes involving vehicles crossing highway lanes can be especially dangerous because oncoming drivers may have little time to react. When a vehicle enters or crosses active lanes of travel, it can create an immediate hazard for drivers already traveling through the area.
This crash shows why drivers must carefully check for traffic before crossing a highway. A crossing movement should only be made when there is enough time and space to do so safely. Failing to wait until the roadway is clear can lead to serious injuries and major vehicle damage.
Drivers have a responsibility to remain alert, yield when required, and avoid placing others directly in harm’s way. Conduct that causes a serious crash while crossing a highway should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
