Two Seriously Injured in Callaway County Crash on Old Highway 54

blog

Two people suffered serious injuries in a crash Friday afternoon on Old Highway 54 in Callaway County after a Chevrolet Silverado crossed the roadway while negotiating a curve. The crash occurred around 4:04 p.m. on May 2, north of Propertee Drive.

A 1995 Chevrolet Silverado traveling south failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center of the roadway, and traveled off the left side of the road. Troopers said the pickup then returned to the roadway, where the right side of the Silverado struck the right side of a northbound 2014 Ford Focus. A second impact occurred when the Silverado overturned.

The 38-year-old driver of the Silverado from Fulton suffered serious injuries and was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. A 39-year-old male occupant in the Ford Focus from New Bloomfield also sustained serious injuries and was transported by EMS to a hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled in the collision and towed from the scene.

Curve-related crashes can quickly become severe when drivers lose control and cross into opposing traffic lanes. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed on rural highways and remain attentive when approaching curves and changing roadway conditions.

All facts reported upon are based on preliminary investigation done by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
