Around 1:30PM on September 6, two individuals were injured in a car accident that occurred on US Highway 63. A Kia Forte was traveling southbound, four miles north of Thayer in Oregon County, Missouri, while a Chevy Silverado was attempting to cross over 63 in the same spot. The two vehicles collided, totaling both in the accident. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries in the accident and later received treatment for those injuries. The driver of the Kia, however, was seriously injured and taken to the hospital via air ambulance. Luckily, both victims were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Crashes like this serve as a serious reminder of the risks present on highways and intersections. Even a moment of misjudgment when crossing or merging into traffic can lead to devastating consequences. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, double-check for oncoming vehicles, and never assume another driver’s actions.
Seatbelt use also remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the severity of injuries in a crash. Law enforcement stresses that while accidents cannot always be prevented, wearing a seatbelt greatly improves the chance of survival and recovery.
Practicing patience and awareness behind the wheel helps protect not only you, but also everyone sharing the road.
