One person was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving a Peterbilt and a tractor on U.S. 65 in Dallas County.
The crash happened around 1:20 p.m. on July 1, 2026, about two miles north of Louisburg. A 2025 Peterbilt began passing in a passing lane as a John Deere tractor began making a left turn toward a private driveway. The Peterbilt struck the tractor.
The tractor driver suffered fatal injuries. Both the Peterbilt and tractor were totaled. The Peterbilt was towed from the scene, while the tractor remained at the location.
Passing crashes can be especially dangerous on rural highways because vehicles may be turning into private drives, moving more slowly, or operating farm equipment that does not accelerate or maneuver like a passenger vehicle.
