Three men were injured Wednesday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash on Business 13 Highway in Johnson County.
The crash happened around 2:39 p.m. on May 20, 2026, at 250 SE Business 13 Highway. A Dodge Durango was traveling southbound on Missouri Business 13 when it braked, began skidding, crossed the center of the roadway, and struck a northbound Hyundai Tucson.
The driver of the Dodge, a 58-year-old, suffered serious injuries and was taken for emergency medical treatment. The driver of the Hyundai, a 28-year-old man, and a 36-year-old man riding in the Hyundai both suffered moderate injuries and were taken by EMS to a local hospital.
The Hyundai was totaled, and the Dodge sustained extensive damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The report also states that the Hyundai driver and passenger were wearing safety devices, while the Dodge driver’s safety device use was listed as unknown.
Crashes involving vehicles crossing the center line are especially serious because oncoming drivers may have little or no time to avoid impact. The reported conduct here is concerning: a southbound vehicle braked, skidded, crossed out of its lane, and struck another vehicle traveling the opposite direction. That kind of loss of control can turn an ordinary trip into a severe crash within seconds.
Drivers have a responsibility to maintain control of their vehicles, stay within their lane, and operate in a manner that does not endanger others on the road. While the Highway Patrol report provides the facts as currently stated and does not assign legal fault, conduct that causes a vehicle to skid across the center of the roadway and hit oncoming traffic is exactly the kind of dangerous roadway behavior that ought to be prevented.
All facts reported upon are based on preliminary investigations conducted by Missouri State Highway Patrol.
