Three individuals were significantly injured in a car accident on the afternoon of Thursday the 7th on Highway 19 through Dent County, Missouri.
A 17-year-old boy was heading northbound on 19 in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado just before 1pm. The boy failed to take a curve properly, just south of County Road 5080, and crossed the center line, colliding with an oncoming 2006 Chrysler minivan in the southbound lane. The boy sustained serious injuries in the collision, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the minivan sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital as well, via ambulance. A passenger in the same vehicle sustained more serious injuries and was taken via air-ambulance to a hospital in St. Louis for life-saving treatment. Luckily, all parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
State and local traffic laws are there because everyone deserves to get home safely, and they apply to everyone. Serious car accidents are incredibly dangerous and unexpected, but unfortunately common and almost always due to negligence in some capacity. As drivers, we have a legal duty to drive with the most caution possible and to follow all laws at all times. The best way to keep yourself and others safe on the road is to practice safe and defensive driving habits, maintain a manageable speed, and allow yourself plenty of room for error—this is how we will put an end to these horrific incidents.
