Six Injured After Frightening Car Accident

blog

Just before 11am on July 2, a serious collision occurred involving a semi-truck, resulting in six injuries in Washington County, Missouri. A Dodge Journey was traveling westbound on Route E when the driver failed to notice a traffic signal while approaching the intersection at Highway 21. The vehicle continued through a red light and into the intersection, where an International semi-truck was lawfully entering from another direction.

Despite the semi-truck driver’s attempt to brake and avoid the collision, the vehicle began to skid and struck the Dodge Journey. The impact caused the Journey to skid as well, eventually leaving the roadway and coming to rest after traveling down a hill.

Two young passengers in the Dodge Journey suffered serious injuries and were life-flighted to a hospital for treatment. Two other minor occupants sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Journey sustained moderate injuries and received medical care following the crash.

Crashes involving large commercial vehicles like semi-trucks often result in significant damage and injury, especially when high speeds or intersection conflicts are involved. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), tens of thousands of people are injured each year in crashes involving large trucks in the U.S., with intersection-related accidents posing a notable threat to public safety.
