At 1:05pm on April 29th, a rear-ending collision turned into a four car pile up on northbound I-35 in Clay County, south of mile marker 26. A seemingly distracted driver, a 19-year-old female operating a 2012 Honda CR-V, rear ended a Ram truck, which then hit a Ford Escape. A fourth vehicle, a Harley Davidson, hit the Ram and the Honda due to the bottleneck caused by the potentially distracted 19-year-old driving the CR-V.
Driving while distracted is a careless crime that can result in substantial jail time for the CR-V for Careless & Imprudent Driving. Additionally, it is unknown whether the driver of the CR-V carried proper auto insurance, obtaining Insure On The Spot insurance. Missouri law requires drivers to carry a minimum of $25,000 in liability limits. If the driver maintained the proper insurance, her family will likely opt to hire a defense attorney that will attempt to explain away why she was not at fault. Wreckless and distracted drivers are not rare to see on the roads, but this heinous accident could have been prevented had she followed the law carefully.
