Two people were injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Pettis County.
The crash happened around 2:44 p.m. on July 27, 2026, on northbound U.S. 65 at Honda Road. A 2023 Buick Envision was stopped in the center turn lane facing south. A 2026 GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on U.S. 65.
The Buick turned left into the path of the GMC, and the front of the Buick struck the front of the GMC.
The driver of the GMC suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital. The driver of the Buick suffered minor injuries and was also taken for medical treatment.
The Buick was totaled, and the GMC sustained extensive damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash report states that both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Left turns from a center turn lane require careful attention and patience. A driver waiting to turn must make sure the roadway is clear before crossing into active traffic. When a vehicle turns into the path of an oncoming driver, the other motorist may have little time to react or avoid the impact.
This crash shows how dangerous an unsafe turn can become. A driver traveling northbound should not be forced into a sudden collision because another vehicle entered their path. Failing to yield before turning is not a harmless mistake when it causes serious injuries and major vehicle damage.
Drivers have a responsibility to look carefully, judge approaching traffic correctly, and wait until it is safe before turning. Conduct that places another vehicle directly in danger should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
