Head-On Crash Seriously Injures Two in Boone County

blog

Two people were seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a head-on crash northeast of Columbia.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on October 28, 2026, on East St. Charles Road near Demaret Drive. A man traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Both drivers had to be freed from their vehicles by emergency crews. The man and woman suffered serious injuries and were taken by EMS to a local hospital.
Authorities reported that the male driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The crash forced officials to close part of East St. Charles Road while emergency crews responded.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office later referred the investigation to the prosecutor’s office for possible criminal charges.
Speeding and crossing into oncoming traffic can have devastating consequences. When a driver loses control or enters the opposite lane, other motorists may have little time to react. Head-on collisions are especially dangerous because the force of impact can cause severe or fatal injuries.
Drivers have a responsibility to follow speed limits, remain in their lanes, and operate their vehicles safely. Driving at excessive speeds without a valid license raises serious concerns about whether a driver should have been on the road.
When reckless driving causes serious injuries, victims may have grounds to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages. Criminal charges may also follow when a driver’s actions violate the law. Holding dangerous drivers accountable is an important part of protecting others on public roads.
