One person was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Franklin County.
The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. on August 14, 2026, on eastbound MO-100 at Route V. A 2018 Freightliner M2 attempted to cross eastbound MO-100, and the front of a 2019 Honda Civic struck the rear of the Freightliner.
The driver of the Honda suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital.
The Honda was totaled, and the Freightliner sustained extensive damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Crashes involving commercial vehicles crossing a roadway can be especially dangerous because of the size and length of the vehicle. A Freightliner attempting to cross active traffic may take longer to clear the lane than a smaller vehicle, leaving approaching drivers with limited time to react.
This crash shows why commercial drivers must use extra caution before crossing a highway or major route. A driver should not begin that movement unless there is enough time and space to clear the roadway safely. When a large truck enters or crosses traffic and another driver is seriously injured, that conduct should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
