A woman was killed and three other people were injured Wednesday afternoon in a head-on crash on Missouri 7 in Camden County.
According to reporting, the crash happened at about 2:55 p.m. on June 11 on MO-7, just north of Route Z. A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north when it crossed the center line into the southbound lane and struck a 2012 Ford F450 head-on.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 45-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford driver, a 29-year-old man, suffered moderate injuries. Two Ford passengers, ages 34 and 40, suffered moderate and serious injuries. All three injured occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash. Reporting also indicated that none of the four people involved were listed as wearing a safety device at the time of the collision.
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions because they often combine the force of both vehicles traveling toward each other. When a vehicle crosses the center line, drivers in the opposite lane may have only moments to react. These crashes can be especially devastating on rural highways, where traffic may move at higher speeds and there may be limited room to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
Drivers have a responsibility to remain in their lane and operate with care for everyone else on the road. A single moment of inattention, distraction, or failure to maintain control can place oncoming drivers and passengers directly in harm’s way. Crashes like this show why staying alert, watching lane position, and correcting safely before drifting across the center line are critical parts of preventing serious and fatal collisions.
