Two people were injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash in Boone County.
The crash happened around 11:00 p.m. on August 29, 2026, on southbound U.S. 63 near Peabody Road. A 2021 Ford Bronco struck the rear of a 2022 Toyota Camry after the Bronco driver reportedly lost consciousness or fell asleep.
The driver of the Ford suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken by EMS to local hospitals.
The Toyota was totaled, and the Ford sustained extensive damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash report states that both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Drowsy driving can be just as dangerous as other forms of impaired driving. A driver who falls asleep or loses consciousness behind the wheel can no longer control speed, distance, lane position, or the ability to stop. On a highway like U.S. 63, that can turn into a serious rear-end crash within seconds.
This crash shows why drivers must take fatigue and medical warning signs seriously before getting behind the wheel. If someone is too tired to drive safely, they should stop, rest, switch drivers, or avoid driving altogether. Continuing to drive while unable to stay alert puts other motorists directly in danger.
A driver struck from behind should not have to suffer because another driver was unable to remain conscious or alert. Conduct that causes a rear-end crash and injures another person should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
