Two people were injured Sunday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Laclede County.
The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. on July 27, 2026, at Highway 32 and Highway Z. A 2017 GMC Terrain was making a turn when it failed to yield to an oncoming 2017 Toyota Highlander.
The driver of the Toyota suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital. The driver of the GMC suffered minor injuries and sought treatment independently.
Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The crash report states that both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Failure-to-yield crashes are especially dangerous because they often place one vehicle directly in the path of another. A driver making a turn must look carefully, judge the speed and distance of approaching traffic, and wait until the roadway is clear before moving forward.
This crash shows how quickly an unsafe turn can cause serious harm. The oncoming driver should not be forced into a sudden collision because another vehicle entered her path. Failing to yield is not a harmless driving mistake when it totals vehicles and leaves someone seriously injured.
Drivers have a responsibility to use caution at intersections and turning points. One wrong decision can leave another motorist with little time to react and no safe way to avoid impact. Conduct that places an innocent driver directly in danger should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
