Failure to Yield Injures Driver in Moniteau County

blog

One person was injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Moniteau County.

The crash happened around 4:12 p.m. on July 21, 2026, on westbound U.S. 50 at Claas Crossing Road. A 2009 Chevrolet Colorado failed to yield while making a left turn, and a 2018 Toyota Camry struck the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Toyota suffered moderate injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital.

The Toyota was totaled and towed from the scene. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was secured roadside. The crash report states that both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.

Left-turn crashes can be especially dangerous because they often place one vehicle directly in the path of another driver. A driver turning across traffic must make sure the roadway is clear and that approaching vehicles have enough time and distance to react. When a driver fails to yield, the other motorist may be left with no meaningful way to avoid the collision.

This crash shows how one unsafe turning decision can cause serious harm. Failing to yield is not a minor mistake when it puts another driver directly in danger and totals their vehicle. Drivers have a responsibility to look carefully, wait until it is safe, and avoid creating sudden hazards for others on the road. Conduct that causes an injury crash should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
