Failure-to-Yield Crash Seriously Injures Two on U.S. 36

blog

Three people were injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Macon County.

The crash happened around 2:16 p.m. on October 4, 2026, on U.S. 36, about four miles west of New Cambria. A 2022 Ford Explorer failed to yield to a 2014 Subaru Outback, and the Subaru struck the Ford in the side.

The driver of the Subaru suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. An occupant in the Ford also suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital. The driver of the Ford suffered moderate injuries and was taken by EMS to a hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The report states that all listed drivers and occupants were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash

Failure-to-yield crashes are especially dangerous on highways because they place one vehicle directly in the path of another. When a driver enters or crosses traffic without yielding, the approaching driver may have little time to slow down, stop, or avoid impact.

This crash shows why drivers must carefully check for oncoming traffic before entering or crossing a roadway. Failing to yield is not a small mistake when it causes a side-impact crash, totals both vehicles, and leaves multiple people injured.

Drivers have a responsibility to wait until it is safe to proceed and to avoid creating sudden hazards for others on the road. Conduct that causes a serious crash because a driver failed to yield should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
