Three people were injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Camden County.
The crash happened around 1:00 p.m. on June 8, 2026, at North Missouri 5 and Missouri 7. A 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe was making a left turn from Missouri 7 when it failed to yield to a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 traveling south on Missouri 5. The Chevrolet then struck the Hyundai.
A 9-year-old passenger in the Hyundai suffered moderate injuries. The 61-year-old driver of the Hyundai also suffered moderate injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered serious injuries. All three were taken by EMS to a local hospital.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene. The report states that the Hyundai driver and juvenile passenger were wearing safety devices, while the Chevrolet driver was not.
Left-turn crashes are especially dangerous because they often place one vehicle directly in the path of another. A driver turning across traffic must make sure there is enough time and space to complete the turn safely. When a driver fails to yield, the other motorist may have little opportunity to avoid the crash.
This incident shows how one unsafe turning decision can injure multiple people, including a child. Drivers have a responsibility to look carefully, judge approaching traffic correctly, and yield when required. Failing to do so is not a minor mistake when it puts another vehicle directly in danger. That kind of roadway conduct should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
