One person was injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash in Ralls County.
The crash happened around 8:56 p.m. on August 17, 2026, at Highway A and Highway H, approximately five miles north of Center. A 2018 Honda Odyssey was traveling westbound on Highway A when it failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a northbound 2017 Chevrolet Equinox on Highway H.
After the crash, both vehicles ran off the roadway, and the Chevrolet overturned. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered moderate injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital.
Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The crash report states that both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Failure to stop at a stop sign can create an immediate and dangerous situation for drivers who have the right of way. A stop sign is not optional. It is a basic traffic-control device meant to prevent vehicles from entering an intersection when cross traffic is already present.
This crash shows how one failure to stop can force another driver into a collision and rollover. The driver on Highway H was placed in danger by a vehicle entering the intersection from Highway A. Drivers have a responsibility to stop fully, look carefully, and wait until it is safe before moving forward. Conduct that ignores a stop sign and injures another person should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
