A 17-year-old driver was killed and two other people were seriously injured Wednesday night in a two-vehicle crash in Boone County.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. on June 17, 2026, at Missouri Route 124 and Gano Chance Road. A 2020 Chevrolet Malibu failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of a northbound 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The Trailblazer driver crossed the center of the roadway in an attempt to avoid the Malibu. Despite that effort, the front of the Trailblazer struck the rear driver’s side of the Malibu.
The Malibu overturned several times, and its 17-year-old driver was ejected. He suffered fatal injuries. An 18-year-old passenger in the Malibu and the 28-year-old driver of the Trailblazer both suffered serious injuries. They were taken by EMS to local hospitals.
Both vehicles were totaled and came to rest off the left side of the roadway. The Trailblazer driver was wearing a safety device. The Malibu driver and passenger were not.
Failing to stop at a stop sign can create a sudden and unavoidable danger for drivers who have the right of way. Here, the Trailblazer driver attempted to escape the collision by crossing the center of the roadway, but the Malibu had already entered her path. She was placed in an emergency situation that she did not create and had only seconds to respond.
One wrong decision made in a split second can have consequences that last a lifetime. Failing to stop, misjudging an intersection, or looking away for only a moment can turn an ordinary drive into a fatal crash. In seconds, families can lose a loved one, survivors can suffer permanent injuries, and innocent motorists can be forced into emergencies they had no chance to avoid. That is why every decision behind the wheel must be made with caution, patience, and respect for the safety of others.
