At 5:55pm on April 28th, a distracted driver caused a serious collision on Missouri 21 northbound, north of Old 21 in Washington County. The driver of 2017 Ford Explorer, a 21-year-old man, was fishing for his lighter to light a cigarette, while behind the wheel. In the process, the man hit the right rear end of the car in front of him, running it off the road. This egregious behavior is punishable by law, and the driver may be charged with Careless & Imprudent Driving, which could result in considerable jail time.
To add to the driver’s recklessness, he also was not insured at the time of the collision. Under Missouri law, a driver must carry a minimum of $25,000 in liability limits for automobiles, and this driver failed to do so as well. He is family will likely hire a defense attorney to justify his actions, though had he obeyed the law, the collision would never have occurred.
