One person was seriously injured Saturday morning in a crash on U.S. 50 in Morgan County.
The crash happened around 11:44 a.m. on May 30, 2026, on westbound U.S. 50 near MO 5. A 2022 Ford Expedition turned into the path of a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia. A third vehicle, a 2025 Ford Explorer, was roadside and was struck by debris from the crash.
The driver of the Ford Expedition, a 66-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital. The Ford Expedition was totaled, and the Freightliner sustained extensive damage. The Ford Explorer had minor damage and was driven from the scene.
The crash report states that all three drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Crashes involving turning vehicles can be especially serious when a driver enters the path of another vehicle already traveling through the area. A turn across traffic requires careful judgment, enough space, and close attention to the speed and position of nearby vehicles. When that judgment fails, the impact can be severe, especially when one of the vehicles involved is a large commercial truck.
This incident demonstrates how serious split-second decisions behind the wheel can be. Drivers have a responsibility to make sure the roadway is clear before turning into or across traffic. Other drivers also have a responsibility to remain aware of moving traffic and take reasonable steps to avoid collisions or reduce harm when possible. Tractor-trailer drivers, specifically, must remain mindful of the size, weight, and momentum of their vehicles and act accordingly. Failing to drive with the utmost caution can cause serious harm, and conduct that endangers others on the road should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
