A Columbia man was injured Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 in Jackson County.The crash happened around 5:38 p.m. on June 10, 2026, on westbound I-70 at mile marker 21. According to reporting, a 2022 Freightliner slowed for traffic ahead when a 2026 Ford Ecoline struck the rear of the Freightliner. The impact caused the Freightliner to strike the side of a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado.
The 29-year-old driver of the Silverado suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Reporting states that all three drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the collision.
The semi truck and Ford sustained moderate damage. The Silverado sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.
Rear-end collisions often occur when drivers fail to leave enough distance between their vehicle and traffic ahead. When traffic slows unexpectedly, drivers who are following too closely may have little time to react, increasing the risk of a collision.
This crash highlights the importance of maintaining a safe following distance and remaining attentive to changing traffic conditions.
