Around 1:50pm on Tuesday the 20th, a fatal motorcycle crash occurred on Missouri 366 eastbound at Girard Drive in St. Louis County. As a Ford Escape was exiting a parking lot, driving across the eastbound lanes, to travel west, they were struck on the drivers side by a 1998 Honda motorcycle. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the driver of the motorcycle’s vision was obstructed by another vehicle, and that obstruction caused the collision. The 60-year-old man driving the bike unfortunately died from injuries sustained in the collision. He was not utilizing any safety devices at the time.
This tragic accident serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of visibility, caution, and the use of safety equipment while on the road. While drivers must always be mindful of their surroundings and avoid actions that put others in danger, motorcyclists also carry a responsibility to protect themselves by using proper safety gear and anticipating potential hazards. Unfortunately, when that caution is not exercised—by either party—the consequences can be fatal. Traffic laws exist to protect everyone, and when drivers fail to follow them or overlook safety measures, innocent lives can be lost. Those who act carelessly and cause deadly outcomes must be held accountable to ensure justice is served and prevent future tragedies.
