Just before 3:20pm on Tuesday, May 20th, a pair of pedestrians were seriously injured following a negligent act on Ohana Drive near the community pool in Camden County, Missouri. A 48-year-old woman operating a Chevrolet Suburban put her car into drive while attempting to put it into reverse, according to the Highway Patrol report, and hit two men walking. Both men were seriously injured after being struck by the vehicle and were taken to the hospital—one of the men by air ambulance.
Pedestrians are some of the most vulnerable individuals on the road, and incidents like this highlight the critical importance of being fully aware and cautious behind the wheel at all times—even in seemingly low-risk areas like neighborhood streets or parking lots. A simple mistake, like selecting the wrong gear, can result in devastating consequences when drivers aren’t fully focused. While accidents can happen, negligence that leads to serious injury is not without responsibility. Drivers have a legal and moral duty to operate their vehicles safely, and when that duty is violated, it’s only right that they be held accountable.
