What Makes Highway 63 So Dangerous?
Hwy 63 is a two-lane highway that runs north to south for the length of Missouri crossing through Columbia, MO. Limited designated exits for side roads, sharp turns and high speed all attribute to the danger of this highway.
Majority of the accidents are due to traffic from the side roads trying to cross the highway resulting in a T-bone car accident. In the past 10 years there have been 179 fatalities that have occurred on Hwy 63.
What Can You Do to Ensure Your Safety?
The biggest effort that you can do is to not drive distracted and watch for traffic crossing the highway when traveling on Hwy 63. If you are needing to cross the highway make sure you have enough time to pass traffic and get to the median. It is not worth your life to rush across the highway.
When merging onto the highway use the merging lanes if available. And of course make sure you are driving with your seatbelt on.
