The crash occurred on September 4th, 2024, at 6:07 PM on Oak Street west of MO Route 5 in Unionville, Missouri. 72-year-old Kelley E. Church was standing near the center of the road while collecting tickets to the Putnam County Fair. Meanwhile, 40-year-old Jason D. Breuklander was driving a 2009 Ford F150 eastbound. As Breuklander’s vehicle passed them, Kelley Church was struck by the towed unit of the Ford F150. Jason Breuklander was uninjured, and the undamaged Ford F150 was driven from the scene.

It only takes an instant for an innocuous moment to turn extremely dangerous when motor vehicles are involved. For pedestrians, open roadways are substantially more dangerous than intersections, resulting in over 75% of pedestrian traffic fatalities occurring around these types of areas (National Safety Council, 2022). Sudden serious injuries as the result of auto crashes can result in huge amounts of stress and worry for the victims and the people close to them.
