The head-on crash occurred last night at approximately 9:00 p.m., just south of Oak Grove, Missouri.
Carla Purkey, 51, and her 18 year old daughter, Savannah, were southbound on Route F in a 2012 Chrysler.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the crash occurred when a northbound, 2004 Ford, driven by Trevor Sims, 24, also of Oak Grove, crossed the centerline and struck the Purkey vehicle head-on.
Both Carla and Savannah Purkey sustained serious injuries in the crash and were rushed to CenterPoint Medical Center by Central Jackson County EMS. Sims was also seriously injured and was taken to CenterPoint Medical Center.
The accident was investigated by Trooper ZD Davidson, 288, of Troop A. He was assisted by Trooper JT Langsdale, 1318, Trooper DM Smith, 1368, MSGT DL Schwalm, 924 and the Oak Grove Police Department.
Many MU Tigers and their fans know 18 year old Savannah Purkey. Savannah is a very accomplished singer and has been singing our national anthem at Missouri Tiger sporting events for years now. Our prayers go out to the Purkey family for a speedy and complete recoveries for both Carla and Savannah.
