A Columbia Public Schools student was injured when a car hit them on their way to a school bus.
The Boone County Fire Protection District was dispatched to the 4000 block of South Ponderosa Street shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The crash occurred at the entrance of the Blue Acres Mobile Home Park.
Captain Brian Leer with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office told ABC 17 News the school bus was stopped to pick up students when another vehicle hit the 9-year-old crossing the street. Leer said it does not appear the injuries were serious.
CPS spokesperson Michelle Baumstark said the district is still working the incident. Baumstark said the bus had its stop arm out but the car continued driving.
ABC 17 News crews at the scene saw Boone County sheriff’s deputies, CPS officials, and an ambulance at the scene. A child appeared to have a medical wrap around their leg.
Leer said deputies arrested the driver but could not provide details on charges.
