According to Columbia Daily Tribune

A pedestrian crossing U.S. Highway 63 near Conley Road on Saturday evening was killed after a collision with a pickup truck.

Cassandra A. Shafer, 54, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov 6, as a male driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD pickup towing a 12-foot utility trailer drove southbound on 63, the Columbia Police Department reported.

Shafer was crossing 63, walking from West to East, when the truck struck her in the passing lane of traffic, the police said.

The driver, from Jefferson City, was uninjured and wearing a seat belt.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Dealing with the death of a loved one is often one of the worst experiences an individual could endure. This is especially true when the death of that family member could be attributed to the negligence of another person. Fortunately, Missouri law allows the decedent’s family to pursue justice and compensation for a wrongful death.
