A woman was seriously injured Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 50 at Route H in Moniteau County, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report. The crash happened at about 8:55 p.m. on July 7, 2026.
Reporting indicates that a 2026 Peterbilt 579 was attempting to pass a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser when the Chrysler made a left turn in front of the Peterbilt. The Peterbilt then collided with the Chrysler. Both vehicles were traveling west before the crash.
The driver of the Chrysler, a 52-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries. She was wearing a safety device and was transported by via air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. The Chrysler was totaled and towed from the scene.
The Peterbilt sustained moderate damage and was also towed from the scene. The truck driver, a 57-year-old man, was listed as wearing a safety device.
Crashes involving passing vehicles and turning vehicles can be especially dangerous because drivers may have limited time to react once both vehicles enter the same path of travel. When a commercial truck is involved, the size and weight difference between vehicles can make the impact even more severe for people in smaller passenger cars.
Drivers have a responsibility to pass only when it is safe to do so and to remain alert for vehicles slowing, signaling, or preparing to turn. At the same time, left turns require careful attention to surrounding traffic because even a brief failure to recognize an approaching or passing vehicle can lead to a serious collision.
