Woman Injured in Semi-Truck Crash on HWY 63 in Osage County

blog

A woman was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after a highway collision involving multiple semi-trucks.

On the afternoon of Monday the 11th, a 56-year-old woman was traveling southbound on Highway 63 at Quaker Windows, through Osage County. Just after 4pm, a 2019 semi-truck in the northbound lane hit its brakes to slow for traffic, causing a 2014 semi-truck behind him to veer to the side in an effort to avoid collision with the 2019. Despite this, the veering resulted in a the woman, driving a Kia Sportage, to collide with the 2014 semi-truck head on. After the initial impact, the Kia was pushed into the back end of the 2019 semi.

The woman sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision, and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Luckily, the drivers of both other vehicles, were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

This accident serves as an excellent demonstration of the role of seatbelts and other safety measures on the road. Though the severity of this crash is unclear aside from a few details given, we can reasonably infer that the woman’s seatbelt saved her life—or saved her from more serious injuries at the very least. Tragedies happen when you least expect it, and we should remain vigilant at all times, including practicing safe driving habits, defensive driving, and taking advantage of every safety device available. However, we can’t always expect or prevent when an incident like this will occur, but we have total control over safety measures we take.
