U.S. 50 Crash In Moniteau County Injures Two

blog

Two drivers were injured Wednesday evening in a crash on U.S. 50 in Moniteau County.

The crash happened around 5:00 p.m. on May 27, 2026, on westbound U.S. 50 at the Highway 50 Connector. A 2022 Chevrolet Equinox was attempting to cross U.S. 50 when it struck the passenger side of a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 18-year-old driver of the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries. The 33-year-old driver of the Jeep suffered serious injuries. Both drivers were transported by EMS to local hospitals.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The crash report states that both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.

Side-impact crashes at highway crossings can be especially serious because they often happen with little warning. At 5:00 p.m., when traffic may be heavier and drivers are trying to move through intersections or connectors during the evening rush, extra caution matters. A driver attempting to cross a highway has to account for the speed and distance of oncoming traffic before entering or crossing active lanes. While it may be difficult to gauge when it’s safe to cross, it’s important to remember that rushing to your destination and driving recklessly can have serious consequences.

This collision show how quickly a crossing maneuver can become a serious crash when a vehicle enters the path of highway traffic. Drivers approaching or crossing major roadways must use added diligence, especially during busier travel times. Failing to make sure the roadway is clear before crossing can put other motorists directly in harm’s way, and that type of roadway behavior should be prevented before it causes more severe injuries.
