Three Injured in I-70 Crash Near Boone-Callaway Line

blog

Three people were injured Monday morning in a rollover crash on Interstate 70 near the Boone-Callaway County line.

According to local reporting, the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. near mile marker 134.6 on eastbound I-70. Authorities reported that a vehicle towing a trailer overturned, causing traffic disruptions and prompting a response from multiple emergency agencies.

The Boone County Fire Protection District reported that three individuals were believed to have suffered injuries in the crash. The extent of those injuries has not been publicly released. Emergency responders from the Boone County Fire Protection District, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and MU Health Care Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

Traffic was reduced to a single lane while crews worked to assist those involved and remove the overturned vehicle and trailer from the interstate. A crane was brought to the scene to assist with recovery operations. Both lanes were reopened around 8:30 a.m. after cleanup efforts were completed.

Rollover crashes involving vehicles towing trailers can be particularly dangerous because they often result in a sudden loss of vehicle control. When a trailer begins to sway, becomes improperly balanced, or reacts unexpectedly to roadway conditions, the risk of a rollover can increase dramatically. Occupants may suffer serious injuries due to the violent nature of these crashes, and other motorists can be placed at risk by debris or blocked travel lanes.

Drivers towing trailers have a responsibility to ensure their vehicles are properly loaded, secured, and operated safely. Factors such as speed, trailer weight distribution, roadway conditions, mechanical issues, and driver attentiveness can all play a role in whether a towing vehicle remains stable. When control is lost, the consequences can extend far beyond property damage and may result in significant injuries to those involved.

Crashes like this serve as an important reminder that towing requires additional caution and preparation. Safe towing practices, proper vehicle maintenance, and careful operation are critical to reducing the risk of rollover collisions on Missouri highways.
