Three Injured in Franklin County Rear-End Crash

blog

Three people were injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 47 in Franklin County.

The crash happened around 8:00 a.m. on May 28, 2026, on Highway 47 south of Route AD. A 2004 Volkswagen Jetta was stopped to make a left turn when the driver of a 2022 Toyota Camry failed to observe the stopped vehicle. The Toyota then struck the rear of the Volkswagen.

The driver of the Toyota suffered injuries, the driver of the Volkswagen and a passenger in the Volkswagen also suffered injuries. All three were taken by EMS to a local hospital.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The report states that all three people involved were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.

Rear-end crashes often happen when drivers fail to notice slowing or stopped traffic ahead. That risk becomes even greater when a vehicle is stopped to make a turn, because traffic behind it must react quickly and leave enough space to stop safely. In this case, the reported failure to observe a stopped vehicle led to a collision that totaled both vehicles and sent three people for medical treatment.

Drivers have a responsibility to keep a careful lookout and remain aware of vehicles stopped ahead of them. Failing to see a stopped car waiting to turn is the kind of roadway behavior that can put multiple people at risk. These crashes are preventable when drivers stay attentive, control their speed, and give themselves enough time to respond before traffic conditions change.
