According to KMIZ

A motorcyclist was killed and a Columbia woman faces likely criminal charges after a Tuesday crash in central Columbia.

The crash killed Skylar Maddox, 25, of Columbia, police said in a news release. Susan Hanel, 72, was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by drugs, resulting in death; leaving the scene of a crash; armed criminal action; driving without a valid license and careless and imprudent driving. She was in the Boone County Jail on Wednesday without bond.

Hanel left the scene, driving down East Sexton Road, the release says. Police say they arrested her at home.

Another vehicle hit Maddox’s motorcycle after the initial collision but avoided hitting Maddox himself.

Police say Maddox was wearing a helmet.

Charges against Hanel were not available in online court records Wednesday morning.

Dealing with the death of a loved one is often one of the worst experiences an individual could endure. This is especially true when the death of that family member could be attributed to the negligence of another person. Fortunately, Missouri law allows the decedent’s family to pursue justice and compensation for a wrongful death.
