Rear End Collision on MO 79 Injures Two

blog

Around 4:00PM on Tuesday, June 24th, a highway speed rear-end collision in Lincoln County, Missouri ended in two individuals being hospitalized. The crash occurred as a Chevrolet Silverado was slowing down for stopped traffic ahead of him on MO 79. As he was stopping for vehicles turning left off of the highway, a Chevrolet Lumina directly behind him failed to do and crashed into the rear end of the other vehicle.

The driver of the Silverado, a 67-year-old man, and the driver of the Lumina, 20-year-old woman, were both taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. It is unknown whether or not they were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.

This crash highlights the serious dangers that can result from failing to follow traffic laws—especially when driving at highway speeds. Rear-end collisions like this often stem from distracted driving, following too closely, or simply not paying attention to changing traffic conditions. The injuries sustained by both drivers show just how quickly a routine drive can turn tragic when even one person on the road isn’t fully focused or fails to act responsibly.

Highways require heightened awareness and caution. When traffic slows or stops unexpectedly, drivers must maintain a safe following distance to allow time to react. Ignoring this basic rule not only endangers the driver themselves but also puts others at serious risk. In this case, both individuals were hospitalized—an outcome that could potentially have been avoided with more careful driving.

Moreover, seatbelt use, though still unconfirmed in this incident, remains one of the most critical safety measures a driver or passenger can take. In high-impact crashes, seatbelts often mean the difference between life and death, or between minor and major injury.

This accident serves as a sobering reminder of why traffic laws exist in the first place. They are not just guidelines—they are proven methods to prevent injuries and fatalities on the road. Whether it’s obeying speed limits, leaving adequate space between vehicles, or staying alert at all times, each law plays a role in protecting everyone. Following them isn’t just a legal obligation, it’s a moral one.
