Motorcyclists Killed and Seriously Injured After Accident on HWY 24

blog

A 43-year-old Keytesville woman was killed late Saturday night after a motorcycle crash on Highway 24 in Chariton County.

The crash happened around 11:20 p.m. on May 16, 2026, on Highway 24, about three miles east of Keytesville near the Chariton River Bridge. Initial reporting states that a 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound when it ran off the roadway, ejecting both riders.

The passenger, a 43-year-old woman from Keytesville, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight on May 17. The motorcycle driver, a 47-year-old Brookfield man, suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to a local hospital. The motorcycle was totaled and towed from the scene.

Single-vehicle motorcycle crashes can be especially devastating because riders have little protection when a motorcycle leaves the roadway. When both riders are ejected, the consequences can be catastrophic, especially at highway speeds and near fixed roadway features.

The reported facts make this crash particularly serious: an eastbound motorcycle left the roadway and both people on it were thrown from the vehicle. Drivers and riders have a responsibility to maintain control, stay on the roadway, and operate in a way that does not put passengers or others at risk. Conduct that results in a motorcycle leaving the roadway and ejecting its riders is the kind of dangerous behavior that can turn one unsafe moment into a fatal crash.

Crashes like this should be taken seriously because the harm is not limited to the person operating the vehicle. Passengers trust drivers and riders to act with care. When that trust is broken by unsafe roadway conduct, the results can be irreversible.

All facts cited are based on preliminary investigation and reporting done by The Missouri State Highway Patrol.
