At 5:30pm on June 19th, a Mexico man was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident in Audrain County. Roughly 400 feet north of County Road 314, a 66-year-old man was operating a Craftsman LT1000 riding mower on Route NN when it overturned into a creek and threw the man off. Unfortunately, the riding mower was totaled in the incident.
According to authorities, the man was traveling along the route when the mower lost stability and overturned into the creek bed. The rollover caused the man to be thrown from the mower, which was ultimately totaled in the crash. Emergency personnel responded promptly to the scene, and due to the severity of the injuries, the man was airlifted via Air Evac to a nearby hospital.
While riding lawn mowers are common tools for maintaining property, they are also heavy, motorized machines that can become dangerous in certain conditions. Sloped ground, wet grass, or unstable terrain can contribute to a loss of control, even at low speeds.
This incident serves as a solemn reminder that extra caution should always be exercised when operating lawn equipment near creeks, roadsides, or uneven ground. Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family during this difficult time, and we extend our hopes for a full and steady recovery.
