Two people were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Morgan County.
The crash happened around 12:10 p.m. on September 18, 2026, on Missouri 52 at Missouri 5. A 2017 GMC Sierra was stopped, then failed to yield as it crossed the westbound lane of Missouri 52. The GMC was struck by a westbound 2023 Chevrolet Traverse.
After the impact, the GMC caught fire, and the Chevrolet traveled off the right side of the roadway. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
The driver and an occupant in the Chevrolet both suffered moderate injuries and were taken by EMS to a local hospital.
Failure-to-yield crashes are especially dangerous at intersections and crossing points because they place one vehicle directly in the path of another. A driver traveling lawfully in their lane may have little time to avoid a vehicle that suddenly crosses in front of them.
This crash shows why drivers must carefully check for oncoming traffic before crossing a highway. Failing to yield is not a small mistake when it causes a collision, sends another vehicle off the roadway, and leaves two people injured.
Drivers have a responsibility to remain alert, wait until it is safe to proceed, and avoid creating hazards for others on the road. Conduct that causes a crash because a driver failed to yield should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
