Failure-to-Yield Crash Injures Three in Adair County

blog

Three people were injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Adair County.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. on September 12, 2026, on Missouri 6, about four miles west of Kirksville. A 2016 Chevrolet Traverse failed to yield and struck the rear of a 2024 Ford F-250.

The driver and a passenger in the Chevrolet both suffered moderate injuries and were taken by EMS to a local hospital. The driver of the Ford suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. The report states that the Chevrolet driver and passenger were not wearing safety devices. The Ford driver’s safety device use was listed as unknown.

Failure-to-yield crashes can cause serious harm because they often leave other drivers with little time to react. When one vehicle strikes the rear of another, the force of impact can injure drivers and passengers in both vehicles, especially at highway speeds.

This crash shows why drivers must remain alert, follow traffic rules, and yield when required. Failing to yield is not a minor mistake when it causes a rear-end crash, totals both vehicles, and seriously injures another driver.

Drivers have a responsibility to watch the road ahead, maintain control, and avoid creating sudden hazards for others. Conduct that causes a serious crash because a driver failed to yield should be taken seriously and addressed under the law.
