A 52-year-old Clarksburg man was injured Sunday night after a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 50 at State Route TT in Pettis County.
According to law enforcement reporting, the crash happened at approximately 9:45 p.m. on May 17, 2026. All three vehicles were traveling westbound when a 2015 Honda Civic failed to stop for slowed traffic. The Honda struck the rear of a 2014 Ford Escape, and the Ford then struck the back of a 2013 Nissan Rogue.
The driver of the Nissan, a 52-year-old man from Clarksburg, suffered moderate injuries. He was transported by via EMS to a local hospital for treatment. The Honda was totaled and towed from the scene, while the Nissan sustained moderate damage and was also towed. The Ford Escape had moderate damage but was driven from the scene.
Rear-end crashes involving slowed traffic can be especially dangerous because drivers and passengers may have little warning before impact. When one vehicle strikes another from behind, the force can push the struck vehicle into additional traffic or another vehicle, increasing the risk of injury in multi-vehicle collisions.
Missouri drivers have a duty to keep a careful lookout, control their speed, and leave enough space to stop safely when traffic slows. Failure to do so can result in being charged with careless and imprudent driving, a Class A misdemeanor (when involving an accident) punishable by up to a year in jail and thousands of dollars in fines. Crashes like this one show how quickly a failure to react to changing traffic conditions can lead to serious consequences for others on the road.
All facts reported upon are based on preliminary investigation done by The Missouri State Highway Patrol.
