On July 5th, 2024, at 9:52 PM a crash occurred between a 2001 Nissan Maxima, driven by 31-year-old Arthur W. Bristow and a bicyclist, 56-year-old Darrell D. Rice. The Maxima was traveling westbound on US 24, about 2 miles west of Keytesville. Carrell Rice was riding his bike on the roadway with no lights or reflectors. The Maxima stuck the bicyclist fatally injuring him. Darrell Rice was transported by Airflight to Moberly Regional medical Center, where he was tragically pronounced dead a little after midnight. 22-year-old Rebecca G. Wright was a passenger in the Maxima and sustained some minor injuries. She was transported by Chariton County Ambulance to Carrol County Memorial Hospital. The Maxima was totaled and was towed from the scene by Skins autobody in Salisbury Missouri.
